چکیده

Abstract Key message At the sixth and seventh years of a drought event in south Chile, non-structural carbohydrate (NSC) concentrations were similar between healthy unhealthy trees Araucaria araucana (Molina) K. Koch, growth did not decrease, suggesting that leaf loss prevented C shortage trees. Context Tree resistance resilience may be impaired by decreasing carbohydrates (NSC). During 7-year drought, isohydric species (Araucariaceae) evidenced decline (foliage browning). Aims To determine whether tree was related to an carbon status reduced growth. Methods In two sites southern we selected healthy- unhealthy-looking study effects on NSC We measured basal area increment (BAI) needles roots after 6 (2016) following one less severe year terms (2017). Results both years, had sugar needle roots, furthermore, they maintained their rates. 2017, NSC, starch, (but roots) increased at sites, while vary. Conclusion Unhealthy likely through acclimation mechanism such as foliage loss. The remarkable found indicates absence starvation lost substantial fraction under drought.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal infection in two morphological root types of Araucaria araucana (Molina) K. Koch.

Araucaria araucana (Molina) K. Koch is a conifer distributed in the Andean-Patagonian forests in the south of Argentina and Chile. The main objective of this work was to relate the different root classes appearing in A. araucana to mycorrhizal behavior. Samples were collected in three different sites in the Lanín National Park (NW Patagonia, Argentina). Two different root classes were present i...

Antifungal and antibacterial activities of Araucaria araucana (Mol.) K. Koch heartwood lignans.

Five lignans (secoisolariciresinol, pinoresinol, eudesmin, lariciresinol, and lariciresinol-4-methyl ether) were isolated from an MeOH extract from Araucaria araucana (Mol.) K. Koch wood for the first time in this species and their structures determined with spectroscopic methods. The antimicrobial activities of these compounds were determined for the bacteria Citrobacter sp., Bacillus subtilis...

Saccharomyces eubayanus and Saccharomyces uvarum associated with the fermentation of Araucaria araucana seeds in Patagonia.

Mudai is a traditional fermented beverage, made from the seeds of the Araucaria araucana tree by Mapuche communities. The main goal of the present study was to identify and characterize the yeast microbiota responsible of Mudai fermentation as well as from A. araucana seeds and bark from different locations in Northern Patagonia. Only Hanseniaspora uvarum and a commercial bakery strain of Sacch...

Comparative Drought Responses of Quercus ilex L. and Pinus sylvestris L. in a Montane Forest Undergoing a Vegetation Shift

Different functional and structural strategies to cope with water shortage exist both within and across plant communities. The current trend towards increasing drought in many regions could drive some species to their physiological limits of drought tolerance, potentially leading to mortality episodes and vegetation shifts. In this paper, we study the drought responses of Quercus ilex and Pinus...

Gastroprotective effect and cytotoxicity of natural and semisynthetic labdane diterpenes from Araucaria araucana resin.

The resin of the tree Araucaria araucana (Araucariaceae) is used by the Mapuche Amerindians in southern Chile and Argentina to treat ulcers and has been shown to display a gastroprotective effect in animal models. A study was undertaken to isolate, identify and assess the gastroprotective effect of the resin constituents and its semisynthetic derivatives as well as to evaluate the cytotoxicity ...
